Fujitsu P-2000 Guides: Upgrading Memory

So lets get started with the first Fujitsu P-2000 guide about how to upgrade the subnotebooks memory.

Dropping in the microDIMM

The 144pin microDIMM has no keyed points in the middle of the teeth to indicate which way it should go into the socket. This doesn't mean that it is universal however - there is only one way the 128MB memory module will fit into the notebook without breaking something. If you look carefully at the picture of the memory module in the upper right hand you can see that the left hand is indented slightly. The picture we took is reversed as that indentation should be on the right hand side of the 144-pin microDIMM socket in the Fujitsu P2000.

With the memory in the right orientation you'll first need to slide it into the socket so that most of those gold pins are no longer visible.

If you can still see most of those gold pins the memory module is not seated properly in the microDIMM socket. Two springs put tension the memory module as you push it in so there will be a small amount of resistance. However, if you have the memory module backwards it won't fit properly no matter how hard you push, so don't force anything.

Keeping pressure on the memory module so it remains seated in the socket simply push down on it until you hear the two plastic clips click into place. There is one on either side of the memory module PCB which hold the unit in place properly.

There you have it, you have just added 128MB of memory to your Fujitsu P2000. Now comes the hard part - putting everything back together in the right order!

The sequence of events to get the keyboard back into place is shown above. Those little aluminum tabs fit into slots in the frame of the notebook and if they aren't seated fully the plastic spacer tab won't fit.

From this point we are going to cheat a bit and tell you to look at the first half of the guide to see what's next (if you really need to). The plastic spacer tab fits in this slot with a bit of gentle pressure - it only goes in one way, so make sure you have if facing the right side. After that spacer tab is in you can flip over the notebook and put that screw back in. Last but not least is dropping the battery back onto the notebook and then you are good to go with a full 368MB of memory!
