Libretto Adidas Edition

I'm undecided if this is literally the tackiest notebook promotion I have ever seen or if this is signalling just how desperate Toshiba is to offload notebooks to the consumer, Crusoe-based or otherwise. Now for your buying enjoyment (insert deep sarcastic tone) you can buy a 2002 FIFA Word CupTM stylized Toshiba Libretto, and carry case - all looking like a soccer. Seriously.

This commemorative model with unique nameplate is scheduled to begin sale in December and continue until the limited supplies is gone, or February 28th, 2002. If all this leaves you felling like your watching the shopping channel you're not alone. Just read this little translated excerpt to see how deeply the soccer motif runs, as if a notebook made to look like a soccer ball wasn't deep enough.

"In addition, the screen saver where the wallpaper and former world cup victory country where countdown to world cup opening day is indicated are shown. The original contents such as whistle sound and begins cheer large number are loaded." Okay so Bablefish hasn't got the Japanese language quite down-pat, but the gist of it seems to be that the opening sound when the notebook is started is a crowd roar, and when an error happens you get a referee whistle.

The Toshiba Libretto Adidas Edition (L3/060 TN2L) features a 600MHz Crusoe processor, 128MB memory, 20GB hard drive a 10" 1280x600 pixel screen and runs with Windows 2000 Professional. More info can be found here and here, all of it in Japanese.
